“CE Latin is hard. There was no digital resource. So we built one.”

When Year 8 pupils sit their Common Entrance Latin paper, they face a demanding exam with a specific word list, specific grammar, and specific types of passage. Yet until now, no dedicated digital revision tool existed for it.

Parents searching online find Galore Park books, printed past papers, and generic flashcard apps. Teachers point pupils to resources built for GCSE, not CE. The gap was obvious.

Caerus Latin fills that gap. Every word, every grammar table, every exercise is built specifically around the ISEB CE specification — nothing more, nothing less.

Everything a CE Latin pupil needs.
Nothing they don’t.

Why most revision doesn’t work — and how we fix it

The design of Caerus Latin is grounded in cognitive science research on how memory actually works.

📉

The Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve

Hermann Ebbinghaus (1885) demonstrated that without review, we forget roughly 70% of new material within 24 hours. A single session of vocabulary reading does almost nothing — unless followed by spaced retrieval.

🔁

Spaced Repetition

The spacing effect — studying material across increasing intervals — is one of the most robust findings in cognitive psychology. Caerus Latin tracks each word's score and surfaces the ones most at risk of being forgotten.

🧠

The Testing Effect

Roediger & Karpicke (2006) showed that retrieving information strengthens memory far more than re-reading it. Every flashcard and quiz in Caerus Latin forces active recall — turning each test into a learning event, not just a measurement.

Common questions

Caerus Latin covers the ISEB Common Entrance Latin examination at 13+, specifically Levels 1, 2, and 3. All vocabulary, grammar, and practice material is taken directly from the ISEB specification. It is not designed for GCSE or A Level.
Most CE candidates sit at Level 1 or Level 2. Level 1 is the standard entry, Level 2 is more demanding and often required by senior schools. Caerus Latin currently covers Levels 1 and 2 fully. Level 3 scholarship content is in development.
Yes — it's designed for independent revision. Most parents can't help with Latin at home, and most private tutors are expensive. Caerus Latin gives pupils a structured, self-directed way to revise vocabulary, consolidate grammar, and test themselves on past-paper style material without needing an adult present.
Caerus Latin is a revision tool, best used alongside classroom teaching. If your child is in Year 7 or early Year 8 and still learning the basics, it will complement their lessons well — they can use the vocabulary browser and grammar tables as a reference. By Year 8 exam season, the flashcards and practice papers will become the main focus.
